French Friend: well, the total cost of me going to Med school is about 406 a year –
American Friend: THOUSAND?
French Friend: Um, no. 406 Euro. It sounds a little high but it covers the cost of my textbooks, extra classes and most of my housing. How much is it for you?

WHAT THE FUCK. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK.

There is no way 400€ cover housing on top on class stuff… According to the website l’étudiant.com the medium price of housing is 388€ a month for a student, and if you live in a big city like Paris it’s like tripled. 400€ a year is clearly not enough to live as a student, even the lowest “scholarship” granted by the state (échelon 0 bis) is 1000€ a year.

If it was that cheap clearly there would not be 1 out of 2 student working on top of their studies and even official exemption from attendance in some universities.

I may consider 400€ is enough to cover registering in a medical school (even if it does depend on the school you choose) and pay for the healthcare stuff, but nothing more.
