The title, うたたねこ (”utataneko”), is a play on the word うたた寝 (“utatane”) meaning “nap” or “snooze.” I love it when there are puns and wordplay that cross over multiple languages. This is fantastically cute. also i am the wife; i can sleep anytime, anywhere

Notes: “Nuzzle” may not be the most accurate translation for “surisuri,” but I thought it had a warm and fuzzy ring to it that fit the imagery better than “rub-rub” or something similar. Also, Fukumaru tends to speak in third-person (lit. “Fukumaru loves being petted,” “Fukumaru thinks so too,” etc.) I considered leaving this in, but I thought it might be a little confusing, for readers who aren’t familiar with the cat’s name yet.There’s not much information about this series available in English, but I hope that changes soon.
I’ve been reading the Ojisama to Neko comics that @sakurai_umi_ has been posting on twitter, and they’re SO SWEET AND CUTE; SOMEONE HOLD ME. So that feels-laden comic about the “ugly” cat getting adopted by the older gentleman is called Ojisama to Neko. As far as I can tell, Ojisama to Neko is an ongoing online comic that’s mostly posted to the artist’s twitter account, @sakurai_umi_. You can even see the original of the adoption comic.
A physical manga is going to be released on February 22nd, which is Cat Day in Japan. Until then (and until we get a translated version) you can see lots more of them here.
