Yuuri is a little taken back by the sudden request but then finds it a little funny that Viktor would ask him such a question. It’s just turned evening and the sun has turned the sky into orange-pinkish hues as it sets below the horizon. They’ve just eaten dinner which sat wonderfully heavy in their stomachs and the room is silent except for soft breathing.
“I’m sorry?” Yuuri asks because he heard it the first time but wants to hear it again.
A delicate flush settles upon the apples of Viktor’s cheeks and he sighs before turning to face Yuuri. His hand is still curled loosely around Yuuri’s own and the pad of his thumb slowly brushes against his palm. The action creates tiny shivers that races up Yuuri’s arm and they’re pleasant to feel that Yuuri fully embraces it. He finds himself turning onto his side to greet Viktor’s blush-stained cheeks and holds back a wide grin.
“What did you say?” Yuuri requests once again and Viktor rolls his eyes with a brief laugh.
“I’m asking if I can kiss you,” Viktor finally repeats. “Again?”
The familiar flood of warmth threats to grace Yuuri’s cheeks but he wills it down to maintain a level of cool. “And why are you asking?” he responds, his head tilting against his plush pillow. “When you easily kissed me on the ice in front of the entire world.”
“I admit that was a bit much-” Viktor starts but Yuuri stops him with a slight shake of his head, his mouth curved into a soft smile.
“I liked it.” Yuuri confesses, the warmth now exploding beneath the skin of his cheeks and Viktor smiles, soft and sweet.
“I liked it too,” Viktor replies and his hand tightens around Yuuri’s as he entwines their fingers together. “But…I wanted to do it the right way?” It comes out as a question like Viktor isn’t even sure about what he’s asking for. “It was kind of a surprise and really out of nowhere but I didn’t-”
Yuuri stops him once more and this time, it’s by pressing his free hand against Viktor’s cheek. It’s silky smooth against his touch and warm and Yuuri can feel the high arch of the cheekbone that rises up whenever Viktor smiles. Whenever he smiles so beautifully that it takes Yuuri’s breath away.
“Kiss me.” Yuuri says, finds himself commanding it as he wants for Viktor to kiss him again and again until Viktor’s all he can taste.
And Viktor does.
He leans forward with an eagerness that Yuuri only thought he possessed and it’s a kiss that imprints itself on his very soul, aiming to stay there for a lifetime.
It’s been one year since the first chapter of And Miles to Go Before I Sleep was posted on AO3!! This was the first fic that @orchids-and-fictional-cities and I worked on together and it holds an extra-special place in my heart, so I did a sort-of redraw of the original header art I made for it a year ago ❤
