Nathan Chen (USA) lands six fully-rotated quads in his free skate to Mao’s Last Dancer, the first skater in history to do so. He scored a personal best 215.08 points for the segment.
Alexei Bychenko – such a nice program! It was clean (except for a popped 3A–>2A) and he really skated to the music. This is what an Olympic Program looks like.
Daniel Samohin – good skate, and shows that he has promise
Nathan Chen – I made a separate post. He had a Redemption Skate. Yolo 6th quad is now a thing.
Misha Ge – I made a separate post. He made me tear up. Touching and absolutely beautiful.
Jun Hwan Cha – That 3Lz+3t was huge, 4S fall – his 3A were both nice. It was a sweet skate overall and I look forward to seeing him mature in the fututre.
Brendan Kerry – rough landings on some jumps. Not the kind of skate you hope for.
Yuzu- I did a tiny shout-out right after his skate, and will do a proper gushing later. 111.68 as the second-highest SP score ever (he holds the World Record). There was the tiniest nitpicky thing on the opening 4S (which is probably why it didn’t break the record), the 3A was perfection, the landing on the 4T+3T(Rippon) was so good. He drew everyone in. He felt so reassuring.
Oh man, Nathan. That was rough. 82.27 placed in 13th place (currently 17th). 4Lz fall. 4T not in combination so it’s considered invalid, and 3A step-out and hand down.
Kolyada – popped 4Lz into a triple, fall on 4T, 3A step-out (iirc? It was bad), almost fell out of the last moments of the spin.
Shoma – 104.17 – very good skate. The 4F had a low free leg coming out of it, but it had the revolutions. The 4T+3T was nice. The 3A managed to hold on to but the running edge was a bit wobbly and his free leg was a bit low here as well. The last spin was on-point and he really filled the ice with his presentation.
Javier – 107.58 – he brought it. I’m so proud. 4T+3T was spot on, his 4S was landed without doubt, and his 3A was super clean as well. I was just thinking about how this feels after his last Olympics. This was so heartwarming to see.
Boyang – 103.32 – clean skate, very nice quads. 4Lz+3T was well executed but the running edge was short. 4T was nice if a tiny bit choppy on the landing. 3A was spot on.
